Ayatollah Seyyed Hossein Boroujerdi
Ayatollah Seyyed Hossein Tabatabaie Boroujerdi, Shia Islamic leader and great scholar of 20 th century. He was born in 1875 in Boroujerd –Iran. His father and most of his ancestors were celebrated scholars of their own time, some of them religious leaders such as: "Seyyed Mahdi Bahr al –Olum Tabatabaie", "Seyyed Kazem Tabatabaie Yazdi", "Seyyed Ali Tabatabaie" and "Seyyed Mohsen Tabtabaie Hakim".
Ayatollah Boroujerdi went to school at the age of 7 and soon learnt the Quran, literature and logic. At the age of 18 he went to Isfahan, at that time Isfahan was one of the important educational centres, he studied under great masters for 10 years and achieved a high position. When he was studying, started teaching "jurisprudence" (Fiqh) and "methodology" (Osul) as well; many scholars participated in his classes. In 1902 he travelled to Najaf and studied in the presence of "Seyyed Mohammad Kazem Khorasani" and "Seyyed Mohammad Kazem Yazdi Tabatabaie". Ayatollah Boroujerdi stayed in Najaf for 28 years and returned to Boroujerd, he stayed there for 36 years; in this period of time he had many scientific and social activities. He started fighting against "Bahaism" (The sect who believes in Baha Ullah) and tried to eradicate this sect. In the reign of "Reza Khan", he was arrested and prisoned, after releasing from prison, travelled to Qom and became the supervisor of "Qom Hawzeh" (religious school). In addition to his scientific works, Ayatollah Boroujerdi performed comprehensive programs in Islamic world and for Muslims. He stablished the centre "Dar al –Taqrib-e Mazaheb" (House of religions) in Egypt; at time this country was the most important base of Sunni.
Aytollah Boroujerdi did amny works, the following are some of them:
1- A'zam mosque (in Qom)
2- The library of A'zam mosque
3- Religious school (in Najaf)
4- Hamburg mosque (in Germany), etc.
Also renovating some schools, mosques, libraries and hospitals in different cities and countries.
He passed away in 1961.
