Abu'l –Tayyib Ahmad al –Jufi Mutanabbi (915-965), born in Kufa- Iraq, was one of the greatest Arab poets. He had a wonderful memory. He received the surname "al- Mutanabbi" means: he who professes tobe a prophet. After having led a wandering life, stayed nine years in Aleppo but then fled to Damascus. On his way back to Baghdad, he was killed by marauding Bedouins. He has a book of collected poems.
