Death of Khadija
Death of Khadija
It was just a few days after death of "Abu Talib" that Khadija –the Prophet's wife- was on deathbed, the Prophet sorrowfully sat at her bedside and consoled her with giving her good news about her great and magnificent place in Paradise. Then Khadija became extremely happy and peacefully passed away.
In "Yaqubi History" it is narrated, when Khadija died, Fatima- her daughter—came to the Prophet, crying and asked him: "where is my mother?" at that moment Gabriel descended and said to the Prophet to inform his daughter that God has built a nice house in Paradise for Khadija, and she has no pain and lives there peacefully forever.
It is said that Khadija died at the age of 65. In some sources her death is considered six months after death of Abu Talib and in some others, three days after his death.
After the death of Abu Talib and Khadija, the Prophet was severely harassed by the Quraysh.
The virtues of Khadija
Khadija was one of the four women who could achieve absolute perfection.
"Among men there are many who attained pure perfection, but among women there are only four who are the greatest women: Mary (Jesus' mother), Asiya (Pharaoh's wife), Khadija and Fatima." Said the Prophet.
He also said" Fatima, Khadija, Mary and Asiya are the greatest women in Paradise.
Ayesha (the Prophet's wife) said: after the death of Khadija, the Prophet all the time remembered her and said that there would be no wife better than her for him.
The Prophet said about Khadija: Khadija believed in me when all the people were atheists. She confirmed me when everyone denied Islam and helped me with her properties. She was delivered of a meritorious baby (Fatima).
It is narrated after the death of Khadija, one day her sister came to the Prophet's house; as she said hello to the Prophet, tears streamed from the Prophet's eyes, because her voice reminded him of Khadija.
After the death of Khadija, the Prophet did not marry until 1 year.
"Umm-e Hakima" (a woman who was resident in Mecca), asked the Prophet's permission to propose to a woman for him. The Prophet permitted her and she went to "Sudah" who was a widowed woman and proposed to her for the Prophet.
